What is Kubb?

Viking Chess

Kubb (or Kubbspel) is a classic lawn game with it’s roots dating back to the Viking age.

The object of the game is to knock over wooden blocks, known as kubbs, by throwing batons (known as ‘Kastpinnar’) at them.

The game can be played on a small playing field, garden or beach, known as the ‘pitch’. Kubbs are placed at both ends of the pitch, and the ‘king’ (a larger wooden block) is placed the the middle of the pitch.

The ultimate object of the game is to knock over the kubbs on the opposing side of the pitch, and then knock over the ‘king’ before your opponent us – to claim victory.

The Viking origins of the game has led Kubb enthusiasts to nickname the game “Viking Chess”.

Our 4-8 player Kubb game set is available in our shop.
